The "Perfect" Hire

Let's get this straight, I don't care who you talk to, there is ABSOLUTELY NOBODY who can take this group of players the Mets have, and make them a contender.  Nobody.  They suck.  Not enough talent, too much payroll.

That being said, the man who I would throw as much money as possible towards is Bobby Valentine.  The man took a team starting Todd Zeile, Mike Bordick, Benny Agbayani, and Jay Payton to the World Series.  Meaning, he is proven to get something out of nothing.  And in this case absolutely nothing.  That team was Mike Piazza, an aging Robin Ventura, and a very good Edgardo Alfonzo.  Other than that, there was nothing there.  It resembles this team, they have 3 or 4 players, although believe it or not, this team actually has better pitching!  The 2000 Mets had 3 starters with an ERA over 4, as compared to the 2010 Mets who only had 1.  If Bobby V., or whoever the manager is for that matter, could possibly inspire this team to hit even a tiny bit, maybe they could be an 89 win team as opposed to 79.  Those extra 10 wins, which I know is a lot, would put them in the conversation, which is really all anyone can ask for.  Jerry Manuel always talked about playing "Meaningful September Baseball."  This has more potential than anything else they can do to put them there.  But then again, this is the Mets, and I'm not holding out hope.  They won't do it, it just makes too much sense.
