Oh, the drama on Monday Night Football tonight in the Meadowlands.
For starters, Randy Moss left his chilly home in Foxboro just in time for winter in Minnesota. The circumstances about his exit are still very much foggy, but I assume that in the next couple of weeks we will find out that he sent nude pictures to Giselle and some of the Patriots staff (no wait, nevermind, that’s the next guy on the list). Randy is coming home to Minnesota, where he had some of the best years – and touchdown celebrations – of his career (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8wMwXz-5g4). Recall that three weeks ago, Randy had the catch of the year over superstar defensive back Darrelle Revis that injured Revis and has kept him out until now. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a second round between one of the greatest wide receivers of all time and the best defensive back in the league today. And keep in mind that for many of the highlights in that video, his quarterback was an average joe. Tonight, he will have a sure-thing Hall-of-Famer (if he ever retires) throwing the ball to him.
Which leads me to part two of tonight’s post: Brett Favre. Brett is one of the greatest of all time (you can’t argue that he’s one of the greatest) at his position, but he’s been struggling this year and if he doesn’t turn it around he could likely be forced to retire (please, please, please, please, please). Brett’s passer rating is 31st in the league this season, behind the great arms of Bruce Gradkowski and Seneca Wallace. The bottom line is that the old man has a chip on his shoulder, and is admittedly ‘nervous’ about having Randy on his team. I expect him to come out slinging tonight. For people that say the whole sexual abuse scandal is going to have Tiger Woods-like effects on him, let me remind you that Brett played the day after his father died and had one of the best games of his life – the man knows how to separate work from his personal life.
At some point tonight (I’m thinking first quarter), Brett and Randy will link up for a glorious touchdown. It will be Moss’ first as a Viking again. But more impressively, it will be the 500th of Favre’s career. Five. Hundred. Touchdowns. Ron Jaworski threw 179. Steve Young? 232. Elway? 300.Even Marino only had 420. Favre has a record that will certainly stand the test of time – and he still has three quarters of a season to play!
