Bullets Blog Grammy Recap

If you read our music blog, you know that Chris and I had a competition to see who could correctly predict the winners of the 11 "most important' Grammy categories (as determined by ourselves). Let's see how we did, but first let's look at some winners and losers of the night:

Winners
Adele - Absolutely cleaned up. I don't think she lost anything she was nominated for.
Whitney Houston - I never realized how talented she was or how much she was beloved by everyone.

Fantasy Basketball Pick 'Em Tomorrow, Anyone?

So Barstool Sports is hosting this fantasy basketball challenge thing this Friday and I'm going to attempt to get all four Bullets Bloggers to enter (link here). Everyone is welcome, it's free, there are prizes of $100, $75, and $50... Why would you not?

How it works: they give you a set amount of money and value each player. You can't go over budget. I have no idea how they score it. Maybe I'll look into that later.

If Ray Allen Isn't An All-Star, I Will Be Mystified

Quote me: no shooting guard deserves to be an All-Star this season besides Ray Allen. Throwing out my whole excitement-dunking-alley oop-fast break theory for this one. The man is on a team with 4 really old guys, an All-Star caliber point guard, and a bench full of scrubs. And he's keeping them in contention (13-10, the 7 seed in the East if the season ended right now) almost single-handedly. Yes, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have contributed and Rajon Rondo has when he's been healthy, but no player in the NBA is more efficient than Ray Allen. His numbers for the season so far:

32.9 minutes, 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 49.5% FG, 54.3% 3FG, 90.5% FT, 
46.2 JPoint

A JPoint of 46.2 for one game is above average. For 20+ games? Wow. Not only is he second in the NBA in 3-point percentage (behind Brandon Rush, who has attempted 60 threes to Allen's 92), but he's also number one in field goal percentage among shooting guards and is one of only six players shooting above 90% from the free throw line. 

Jay Hawks Week 6 Update

I'm starting to think that I should just apply for the GM job in Minnesota Timberwolves-land. I'm so good at this. At this point I don't even think I'm being cocky - I'm just awesome at drafting fantasy basketball players. The Guatemalan Fruits had no shot. Deron Williams went for almost 100-40 again. This time it was Marc Gasol who came close to 50-50 - and Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan weren't far behind him. Williams, Ray Allen, Caron Butler, and JJ Redick combined for seven more 3-pointers than the whole Fruit team. Speaking of Redick (the newest addition to the squad), how did he do in his first official week as a Jayhawk? 38 points, 8 threes, 100% free throws, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks. Literally doing it all.

Week 6: 8-0-0
Season: 42-6-0 (First place overall; second place in the league/conference is 30-17-1)

NBA All-Star Game Reserve Picks

Last week, the fan voting results for the NBA All-Star starters were announced. A quick recap:

I don't really know when the reserves are announced, but I can tell you how they are selected. Every coach gets to vote for the bench in his conference - 2 guards, 2 forwards, 1 center, and 2 wild cards - without voting for any of his own players. One new addition is the center position is very ambiguous - coaches can vote for any player who has played any center this season, because honestly there's not enough All-Star caliber centers to pick four. Here's who would be on my ballot, and let me just tell you that I think the only reason we should have an All-Star game is to entertain the fans (see: NFL Pro Bowl):

Jay's Super Bowl Preview

Throw the following things out of the window: quarterbacks, coaches, the Giants' defensive line, the Giants' running game, the Giants' passing game, special teams, overtime rules. Go Daddy commercials, and Peyton Manning.

They don't matter to me.

Here's all you need to know: I have two theories about Super Bowl XLVI that directly contradict each other. The contradiction is all based on one man:

Theory 1
Gronk is healthy. He's been faking the ankle injury all along because Belichick and Tom Brady told him to. He's going to go nuts on the Giants' secondary and runaway with the Super Bowl MVP award. The Patriots will win to the tune of 37-24.

Theory 2
I'm being totally unreasonable in even giving New England a shot at winning. Gronk won't play, and even if he does he'll be limited so much that Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz will each triple his production. In this case, the Giants will win handily, 35-19.

One thing is for sure, however: Danny Woodhead will score a touchdown. I had a dream, so basically just lock that one down in whatever way you possibly can. He's going to cut across the field and score just inside the pylon.

And that, folks, is my terribly flip-flop-y Super Bowl prediction.

FBTotD: Making Dwight Howard's Decision For Him

I think there have been approximately one billion trillion articles written about the Dwight Howard situation. Should Orlando trade him? Should they wait out this season and see if he stays around for another contract? Does Dwight want to stay?

The answer is simple. Dwight is not going to stay. He's going to do the same thing to Lebron (although on a smaller scale) and leave Orlando in his rearview to go play with another star. Or two. So following that, the logical step is to ask, "Why the hell haven't the Magic traded Dwight Howard yet?!"

Because they can't find an acceptable offer?
